Building Your Child Is an Art

You know how to build and paint your house beautifully but if you do not know how to paint the hearts with love inside, it is really ugly.
You know how to grow flowers for the eyes and grow food in the garden. But you do not know how to grow love and happiness, the fields in the hearts of your children will be barren.
You know how to laugh and hug other men and women to make them happy,
But if you don't know how to share the same with your children, then you love your thieves to rob these treasures from your children.
And by the time you realize it, you will find you cannot redeem these treasures with all your gold and money. The thieves you love will win the game. The ones who will lose and grow to become riffs raffs are your children who bear your name.
If you do not play and hug your children once a day, they will look outside to fill their hearts and minds in other ways.
Hug, play and make your child laugh once in the morning, he will go through the day without crying.
Hug, play and make your child laugh once at night, he will end his day woth great delight.
But little teaching, too much pampering and mollycoddling,
You will spoil and turn him into a weakling. To give your child the best of childhood is not build on luck.
But it is only when you know that building your child is an art.

Polycarbonate bottles are harmful

Dear Parents

As follow is the article from The Star newspaper on 24/12/08 about the Polycarbonate water bottles which are used by our kids. Please be aware if the bottom of the bottles is written PC 7.

‘Polycarbonate bottles are harmful’
By WINNIE YEOH
POLYCARBONATE water bottles are harmful and their usage could be linked to some health abnormalities, said Penang Consumers Association (CAP) president S.M. Mohamed Idris.
He said polycarbonate-made water bottles would leach out bisphenol A (BPA), a potent hormone disrupter which could have detrimental effects on the future generation.
“BPA is a synthetic chemical that is also known as ‘environmental hormones’. It can disrupt the hormone-secreting glands that form a network known as the endocrine system. This system includes the thyroid, pituitary, pancreas, thymus, adrenal, ovaries and testical glands.
“The chemical can lead to the impairment of the reproductive organs, has adverse effects on tu-mours and prostate development by reducing sperm count. It also has an adverse influence on the breast cancer tissue development,” he told a press conference yesterday.
He said the bottles could be identified with the number “7” within a triangle with the letters “PC” beside it.
“The bottles are being sold everywhere and people think they are safe as they can withstand high temperature liquids.
“But researchers have found out that BPA can leach in the bottle contents through normal wear and tear as well as exposure to heat and cleaning agents,” he said.
Mohamed Idris claimed that a University of Missouri study showed that BPA could even leach into liquids at room temperature.
He said: “This finding is alarming and I urge the Education Ministry and parents to ban the use of the bottles in schools.
“The public should also refrain from using polycarbonate or any other plastic bottles.”
He said a steel or glass bottle was preferred and it cost about the same as a polycarbonate bottle.

Winter Solstice - Tang Yuen Festival

21st December 2008 was the festival of dongzhi or winter solstice celebration. We were really happy to have a chance to roll these glutinous rice balls with our kids in Kinderland because we are sure they love the activities.

The kids were really excited counting their age as they were told once they swallowed a tang yuan on winter solstice, they will be one year older.
We wish we could celebrate this festival with our kids every year because we are looking forward to see them growing in every year.
